Strength of fabric and tearing strength tester

Tensile strength of the fabric means that the force can cause the fabric to be pulled in the vertical or horizontal direction. The tensile strength of the fabric plays an important role in the quality of the final product produced from it. Good tensile strength is related to the usable strength of the fabric. Therefore, the tensile strength of the fabric must be checked after every chemical process and especially after the weaving process before deciding on chemical treatment technology.

Tensile strength in fabric depends on many factors:

Agents play an important role in determining the strength of fabric.

Fabric weight.
Twist, yarn count
Fiber composition.
Single or multiple staple yarn.
Density fabric
Weaving style ..
Tensile strength of the fabric has been tested according to ASTM – D5035. In this method, the clamping and tensioning machine tests a fixed width and tensioning tape at a uniform speed, to a certain pulling force, the tape is pulled off, the pull force drops abruptly, and the pull force breaks off. So the tensile strength of a fabric is the force that the cloth can withstand before breaking. That force can be calculated in PSI or Lb / in2 in US units, or N / m2 in international units….

This method is also used to test breaking strength for nonwoven fabrics but not for knitted fabrics because of its high elasticity.

Standard breaking strength of the fabric depends on the requirements of each customer, usually required depending on the fabric weight range.

Tearing strength of fabric: (Tearing strength of fabric)

Another indicator required for woven fabrics is the tear strength of the fabric.

Tear strength is the resistance force of a tear-proof fabric or the force required for a seam to withstand before it starts to tear. Tear strength is an important indicator of the fabric to determine the scope of application of the fabric, especially in industrial requirements requiring high fabric strength such as jackets, industrial tents, and clothing. protect workers, sacks, or even in daily life, cosmetic apparel …

The tear strength of a fabric depends on the following factors:

Weight of fabric – a fabric with a higher weight will be more tear resistant.
Strength of yarn in fabric. More durable yarn, will give higher tear strength.
Warp and weft density. High density for high tear strength.
Weaving styles: Flat weaving has the lowest durability among weaving styles.
Filament yarns will have higher tear strength than short fibers.
Finishing or finishing is applied in fabric.
Tear strength is tested by ASTM D1424 method.

In it, the fabric is attached to the machine and is subjected to a tear force over a specified length of length and width of the fabric. The force generated as a result of a pendulum having a definite weight. The measured tear force is the force so that the cut determined on the test piece of the fabric is torn and the pendulum can fall freely.

The unit of measurement of Tearing strength (Tearing strength) as well as the unit of tensile strength (Tensile strength) in the upper part.
